Google’s new widget for Android shows the charge of Bluetooth headphones

Google has released another pack of new features under the Feature Drop program for its Pixel devices, which this time also includes a widget to display the charge level of a paired Bluetooth headset. As the tests of the 9To5Google edition show, the innovation is compatible not only with the branded Pixel Buds headphones, but also with others – though not with all. The only earphones tested that the Western journalist did not display in the widget were Apple’s AirPods.

However, different headsets work differently with the new widget. In the case of the TWS format, ideally, the charge of both the case and each of the headphones is displayed (as is the case with Pixel Buds and Sony LinkBuds), but Jabra Elite 3 only shows the charge level of each of the headphones, while OnePlus Buds Pro, Galaxy Buds Pro and Jabra Elite 85t only display the combined charge of two headphones.

Google was clearly inspired by a similar widget from iOS 14, but did not transfer all of its functionality – the charge of smart watches on Wear OS is not displayed. Also in Google’s implementation, the widget only has one fixed size of 4×2 icons.
