Google’s updated parental controls show when a child is out of school

Google employees decided to completely redesign their parental control application called Family Link, adding new features and completely redesigning the interface. The result is software that will be really convenient to use, because since 2017, when the application was officially presented to the world, the company has practically not made any changes to the software, only occasionally adding patches. Now Family Link, for example, boasts a function to notify parents when a child visits an educational institution. The system works extremely simply – when children with a smartphone arrive at school, the device determines the location of the child by geolocation, sending parents a notification of arrival.

Similarly, the software works in the case when the child left school or, for example, college – when the teenager’s device leaves the location marked in the application as “School”, the application sends a notification to parents that their child has left school. This is a great tool for monitoring and improving safety, as parents will always know when their child arrived at school, when he left school and, for example, when he came home. Yes, many locations can be set in the application to track the movements of the child – be it at home, school, sports section, and so on. But the developers decided not to stop there.

Family Link now gives parents the ability to set various restrictions on their child’s smartphone. For example, you can limit screen time for children so that a young user does not spend too much time on social networks, does not waste time watching videos, and so on. Moreover, parents can see in the application how much time their child spends in certain software and how much time has passed since the last visit. Useful to keep track of when a child at school is playing games in class or watching videos instead of class.

If necessary, parents can set certain restrictions for a specific day without changing the general configuration, plus you can view scenarios when a child tried to go to a prohibited site. In addition, in the “Location” tab, it will be possible to track the location of your children in real time. And, most importantly, now the child can request through parental control the ability to install an application or purchase something – both the software itself and the content inside the application or video game. This should eliminate situations where children could mistakenly buy thousands of dollars worth of donations in the game.
