Gorinchteyn: Committee evaluates strategies for the application of the fourth dose in SP

The São Paulo government confirmed that it will start the application of the fourth dose of the vaccine against Covid-19 from April 4th for the population over 60 years old. In an interview with CNNthe state health secretary of São Paulo, Jean Gorinchteyn, said that the scientific committee evaluates strategies for the campaign.

“In the coming days we will have this result of this analysis, which will be established by the scientific committee itself, and then we will define the strategies and also the chronology so that people can be preparing for this new vaccination cycle”, said the secretary.

In São Paulo, more than two million people did not return to receive the second dose of the immunizer. According to Gorinchteyn, of that number, at least 1,100,000 are people between the ages of 12 and 29.

“They are the ones who circulate the most, who go to their friends’ houses, who frequent the night, the clubs, and return to their homes. Therefore, along with them, the virus itself also circulates, ”he evaluated.

There are still a total of eight million people who are late on their booster dose. The secretary stressed that completing the vaccination cycle is essential to ensure protection against the disease.

“It’s a guarantee that [as pessoas] will be protected, not only against the Delta variant, which has passed, the Ômicron variant, which, fortunately, is cooling off, and other variants that will come, since more than 80% of the world is not adequately vaccinated and the chance of new ones appearing strains is very large,” he said.
