The consumption of a more potent type of marijuana that costs at least 50 times more than regular marijuana alerted the São Paulo civil police, who began investigating groups specializing in the manufacture and trafficking of the product.
In the last three months, teams from the Narcotics Investigation Department (Dise) of Carapicuíba carried out at least three operations against the gang that sells this type of drug in upscale regions of Greater São Paulo, such as Alphaville and Santana de Parnaíba.
According to delegate Estevão Castro, responsible for operations, the drug is mixed with chemical compounds, which enhance the effects and can leave a different aroma to that of regular marijuana.
“The drug is sold in a type of paste, in bulk or in a more rigid format. They (the traffickers) mix chemical compounds, which enhance the effect of the drug”, he explains.
The sale of the drug, according to the delegate, is restricted to messaging groups and delivery takes place directly at the user’s home. “Gourmet marijuana” is unlikely to be found in conventional drug stores, known as “biqueiras”.
“This type of marijuana is sold to a specific audience, who have greater purchasing power and who have access to groups where there is illegal trade. Generally, delivery is made by the dealer and not as occurs in conventional drug trafficking, where the user goes to the point of sale”, says the delegate.
Traffic laboratory
The latest offensive by Dise de Carapicuíba police officers against the trafficking of “gourmet marijuana”, on June 4th, ended with the arrest of yet another suspect from the gang being investigated. With an arrest warrant authorized by the courts, the police managed to enter a property that functioned as a kind of drug laboratory.
The target of the arrest warrant was armed, but did not react to the approach made by the police, according to information in the police report. At the scene, according to the police, packets of hashish derivatives (which contain high concentrations of THC), known as “dry” and “ice”, were seized, which are used as the basis for “gourmet marijuana”.
In addition to the drug, various equipment used to manufacture the drug was located and seized, as well as a .380 caliber pistol and ammunition.
