The Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, and the Minister of Health, Nísia Trindade, signed this Thursday (13) an agreement to expand the use of a hospital management application currently used in 41 university hospitals. The program allows doctors, nurses and other health professionals to have quick access to the medical records of patients from the Unified Health System (SUS).
The project intends to expand the use of the tool to approximately 3,000 hospitals in different states.
The application records consultations, hospitalizations, procedures, exams and medications applied to patients. And the data can be accessed at any health unit that has the tool.
The project is an initiative of the Brazilian Company of Hospital Services (Ebserh), a state-owned company linked to MEC. It is currently used to assist 25 million patients and is considered the largest public hospital system in Brazil, accessed an average of 3 million times a month. In all, there are 83,000 registered users.
With the agreement signed today, the government intends that the tool will also be used by federal, state and municipal health units. The intention of the Ministry of Health and the MEC, explained the ministers, is to allow a better continuity of treatments and avoid the repetition of unnecessary procedures.
In addition, the ministers claim, with the entry of information from hospitals, the database referring to the health of Brazilians will be strengthened and will allow more information to be made available to citizens through ConectaSUS.
Minister Nísia Trindade stated that this initiative is part of the government’s reconstruction agenda in Brazil and that it is a technology aimed at reducing inequality.
“The synthesis is education and health to rebuild Brazil. Digital transformation has become a recurring term these days, but it is important, in the case of health, to think about this digital transition from the great values of the SUS to guarantee quality access to the population”, said the minister.
The government expects the expansion to begin in October. According to the president of Ebserh, Arthur Chioro, the ministries will offer technical assistance to the States, providing all the support for the implementation, maintenance and development of the application.
Another point raised by Chioro is the forecast of financial savings, over time, of resources that can later be directed to other areas.
“Today, public hospitals, whether municipal or state, spend a considerable amount of resources to implement an electronic medical record system and then carry out annual maintenance. The estimated adhesion, around 3,000 hospitals, will generate a possibility, if it materializes, of saving resources for the municipalities of more than R$ 3 billion”, declared Chioro.
The Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, pointed out that this payment was an old demand from the state and municipal health secretaries that materializes with the signing of the agreement. “We have brought health and education closer and closer, in this action today, in Mais Médicos, in Revalida, in the creation of new medical schools. It is important for health and education to always be integrated”, said Santana.
