The Ministry of Economy announced this Monday (6) the blockade of R$ 6.965 billion in the 2022 budget. The measure aims to ensure compliance with the spending cap rule, which prevents public spending from increasing above the inflation of the previous year.
According to the ministry, the total need for blocking would be BRL 8.702 billion, after including BRL 463 million for the recomposition of appropriations from the Ministry of Economy to meet emergency expenses (maintenance of systems, payment of bank fees for the provision of services etc).
However, the contingency reserve approved by this year’s budget law, in the amount of R$ 1.736 billion, will be used to deduct the total amount.
The three most affected areas are the Ministry of Science and Technology, with a cut of R$ 2.5 billion; The Ministry of Education, with R$ 1.598 billion blocked; and the Ministry of Health, which had a blockage of R$ 1.253 billion.
In March, the government already had to block BRL 1.722 billion in rapporteur amendments. Thus, the total cut announced in 2022 so far is BRL 8.687 billion.
