Members of the Planalto Palace informed the CNN that the federal government is now considering giving up on approving a Proposal for a Constitutional Amendment (PEC) that compensates states that zero ICMS on fuel.
Thus, it intends to use the resources it would use with this, around R$ 27 billion, to create a kind of temporary Emergency Aid that would last six months, with a value of R$ 200 at an estimated cost of R$ 22 billion.
The Emergency Aid would therefore be added to the gas voucher and a voucher for truck drivers.
The assessment, supported by members of the economic team, is that, given the governors’ reaction to the idea of federal compensation for an eventual reduction of ICMS, the best way would be to give up this format and use the resources that would finance the eventual reduction to finance the aid. In this way, the PEC that would establish this movement would lose strength.
