The federal government created a crisis office to monitor the case of the demolition of electricity transmission towers.
The Brazilian Electric System Situation Monitoring Office was set up by the National Electric System Operator (ONS) with coordination from the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) and the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel).
The group will work to maintain the security of the National Interconnected System (SIN) and, according to the ONS, is already “adopting measures traditionally implemented in special events such as, for example, Elections and the World Cup and Olympics”.
“Throughout the monitoring work, the Operator was notified of falling towers, but at this time of year with severe weather conditions, the incident can be considered normal. At the moment, the causes are being investigated by the respective agents”, quotes the document.
Aneel documents, however, mention that there are signs of “sabotage and vandalism”.
