On January 26, the Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte resigned. A decision already announced in the previous Council of Ministers and which formalized the opening of the government crisis, started with the decision by Italia Viva to leave the majority and the consequent choice of the two ministers Elena Bonetti and Teresa Bellanova to leave their respective positions as ministers to Equal Opportunities and Agriculture.

Immediately after a moment we saw images of the voting in the House and Senate to verify the majority of the government, then the meeting between Giuseppe Conte and the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella to formalize his resignation.

Below: the start of consultations, the dark faces of some deputies, others tired, cups of coffee between sessions in parliament. The Quirinale, the arrival of representatives of the political forces to talk with Sergio Mattarella, finally the exploratory mandate entrusted by the head of state to Roberto Fico to verify the possibility of forming a new political government.

Over the weekend, the first meetings took place between Fico and the parliamentary forces that supported Giuseppe Conte before the crisis, then 5 Star Movement, Democratic Party, Liberi e Uguali and Italia Viva. Then there were the smaller parties and to follow Roberto Fico confirmed the willingness of the parties to form a new alliance.

“From the meetings with the political forces of the majority, the willingness to proceed with a common confrontation to reach a synthesis emerged”, he explained after the second day of talks. By Tuesday he will return to the Quirinale to report the outcome of his exploratory mandate to the President of the Republic.

Meanwhile, the President of the Chamber has summoned a Montecitorio in these hours a majority technical maxi-table, in which the party leaders will not participate but each political party will indicate at least two representatives each, to write the government contract.
