Government discusses possible suspension of cruises season

The Minister of Tourism, Gilson Machado, informed the CNN Brasil that the federal government should promote this Monday (3) meeting at the Planalto Palace to discuss a possible suspension of the cruise season in the country.

According to him, the Ministries of the Civil House, Health, Infrastructure, Tourism and AGU (General Advocacy of the Union) should participate in the meeting. The time has not yet been set.

“I am in favor of all parties complying with what was established in the interministerial protocol that releases the cruise season, which was even signed by Anvisa itself,” said the minister.

In conversation with the CNN Brasil, the minister highlighted that, in addition to the health issue, the federal government will take into account the economic aspect, such as the interest in the recovery of employment in the country.

“We are talking about another 30,000 jobs and nearly R$ 2 billion that this activity injects into the economy. I would like to leave a question in the air: will the Carnival blocks all be tested? “he added.

Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) must send to the Ministry of Health a request for the suspension of cruises in the country.

Sources linked to Anvisa said to CNN Brasil that the document will suggest that the folder order cruises to cancel new trips in Brazil and be moored immediately, with no operation on board.

For the agency, the outlined plan — which provided for the release of the activity only with a favorable epidemiological scenario — collapsed with the arrival of the Ômicron variant in Brazil.

The measures were in ordinance 661, of December 8, and were decided by the ministerial committee that makes decisions regarding Covid-19.
