The Minister of Ports and Airports, Márcio França, informed that one of the suggestions evaluated by the Federal Government is to create a kind of monitoring to avoid new irregular occupations in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo.
“We suggest having a metropolitan command and municipal guards deployed to this metropolitan command and, eventually, the Civil Defense can provide aircraft so that they constantly fly over the areas to avoid new occupations in undue places”, explained França.
The integration would also facilitate the arrival of federal aid in the region affected by the rain, which caused the death of 54 people during Carnival, on the north coast.
“Part of the resource, instead of coming to each city, could come directly to the metropolitan region and from there serve everyone, including the north coast. Only the cities at the tip of the northern region are not part of the metropolitan region. But the request is much stronger if it comes with all the mayors agreeing, ”he said.
These were some of the suggestions heard by França and also by the ministers of Regional Development, Waldez Góes, and the holder of the portfolio for Indigenous Peoples, Sônia Guajajara.
The three participated in a meeting with twelve mayors, nine from Baixada Santista and three from Vale do Ribeira, at the Santos Port Authority headquarters this Friday morning (24).
The idea is that in fifteen days the mayors of the region will go to Brasília to receive feedback on the requests made. “President Lula’s objective is for us to reformulate the previous formula of letting it happen and then taking care of the situation. We are here to prevent it from happening in the state of São Paulo,” he said.
According to the ministers, the Federal Government has already released R$ 60 million to help the victims. And this amount can increase.
The Minister of Indigenous Peoples, Sônia Guajajara, recalled that there are villages in the region and came to check the situation they are in. “We came to follow up in loco, see what the needs of these indigenous people there at that moment, what support we are going to give to the Civil Defense and the Ministry of Cities”, she informed.
After the meeting, Góes and França returned to São Sebastião, where they are working together with the government of the state of São Paulo to attend to the needs of the victims of the rain in the north coast of São Paulo.
