Government expects better Carnival in 2 years; airlines have 1,200 extra flights

With no restrictions caused by covid-19, the Tourism sector is looking forward to experiencing the best Carnival of the last two years. According to the Ministry of Tourism, based on data from airlines and bus companies, there will be 1,200 extra flights across the country and 25% more buses in this period.

Traditionally, this is one of the busiest and most economically active periods of the year. But it was reduced due to the pandemic.

Whether by plane or bus, the three most popular places for revelers are Salvador, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. In the case of flights, trips also increase to Porto Seguro (BA), Recife (PE), Belo Horizonte (MG), Maceió (AL) and Florianópolis (SC).

“We are excited about holding this popular festival that is so characteristic of Brazil and that returns after two years of restrictions due to the pandemic, with a strong tourist flow”, says Minister Daniela Carneiro.

“We work to provide conditions for tourism to take place in our country and enable people to travel by the most diverse modes, especially by air, at more affordable prices.”

To the Ministry of Tourism, Latam Brasil informed that it will increase by 35% the offer of seats in the country and by almost 40% the number of flights for Carnival. It is estimated that more than 600,000 passengers will be transported during the period.

Also according to the airline, routes operated mainly at the airports of Guarulhos and Congonhas, both in São Paulo, will be reinforced, expanding connectivity to other destinations in the country, such as Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Curitiba (PR) and Brasília (DF). .

Azul Linhas Aéreas reported an increase of 158 flights in the period, especially to the cities of Salvador (BA), Porto Seguro (BA), Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Florianópolis (SC) and Maceió (AL), cities that count with traditional festivities.

According to the company, Carnival Saturday (18) and Ash Wednesday (22) will be the dates with the highest volume, respectively, with 36 and 46 additional departures.

Gol informed that it will make available 72 thousand more seats to serve the revelers. The terminals in Guarulhos, Rio de Janeiro, Campinas, Belo Horizonte, Salvador, Maceió, Recife, Fortaleza, Porto Alegre, Curitiba and Florianópolis will receive the largest number of extra flights for the period.

For the company, the 16th and 17th of February will be the busiest days, with 789 departures.

The estimated increase in demand for bus travel compares with data from 2020, considered the last with significant movement for the period.

According to the Brazilian Association of Passenger Land Transport Companies (Abrati), in a single company that makes the route Fortaleza (CE) / Recife (PE), the number of departures will be five times greater during Carnival.

Among the most popular destinations, in addition to the traditional cities of Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Salvador (BA), São Paulo (SP), Diamantina, Ouro Preto and Belo Horizonte, in Minas Gerais, and the beach towns of Rio de January.
