Government files Rio-BH road concession project with TCU

The federal government filed on Thursday (8), at the Federal Audit Court (TCU), the concession project for Rio-BH, which brings together the road system of BR-040/RJ/MG and BR-495/RJ , expected to attract R$ 9.2 billion in investments in a 30-year contract.

The expectation is that the public notice, after approval by the Court of Auditors, will be published by the end of the year, and that the auction will take place in the first half of 2023.

The proposal results, in part, from the return of the stretch managed by Invepar, which triggered the re-bidding of the road it manages between Brasília (DF) and Juiz de Fora (MG).

It was the first highway concessionaire to activate the instrument, in 2019.

The TCU is already analyzing airport re-bidding processes, but it is the first road re-bidding process to reach the Court of Auditors.

Modeled for the new concession, the Rio-BH system totals 451 kilometers, and is distributed as follows, according to the federal government: Highway BR-040/MG, between kilometers 544 and 831.4, in Minas Gerais; Highway BR-040/RJ, between kilometers zero and 125.2, in Rio de Janeiro; and highway BR-495/RJ, between kilometers 34.4 and 34.5, in Rio de Janeiro.

The estimate is that more than 66 thousand vehicles travel on the highway daily, and there is an expectation that 117 thousand new direct, indirect and income-effect jobs will be generated from the concession.
