The federal government sets up an inter-ministerial working group to draw up a proposal for a policy to increase the value of the minimum wage.
Coordinated by the Ministry of Labor and Employment, the group has the participation of various government ministries and also union centrals.
The resumption of appreciation of the national floor was one of the campaign promises of the now President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
The working group, already in progress, will last for 45 days, starting on January 19, to indicate the methodology, criteria and rules to be adopted as a reference for the correction of the minimum.
During the PT administrations, there was a law that allowed an annual increase in the minimum wage based on inflation and GDP growth.
Today, the minimum wage is R$1,302 and will increase to R$1,320 as of May 1, as President Lula has already announced.
The presidential decree formalizing the group is published in Federal Official Gazette (DOU) this Monday.
According to the act, the team’s work – which is considered to be providing a relevant and unpaid public service – may be extended for another 45 days if necessary.
