Less than two years from the United Nations Conference on Climate Change, COP30, the Brazilian government announced on Monday (20) the official hiring of a hosting platform that will be used to organize the stay of thousands of participants in the event in Belém (PA), host city of the meeting.
The tool, developed by the German company MCI Germany, is a solution already used in previous editions of the Climate Conference and aims to map hotels, inns, real estate and temporary accommodations available in the capital of Pará and nearby regions. The goal is to facilitate logistics planning and ensure greater transparency and security in hosting heads of state, international delegations, journalists and representatives of civil society who will participate in COP30, scheduled for November 2025.
According to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the hiring was done through the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), at no direct cost to the Federal Government. It is estimated that up to 50,000 people visit Bethlehem during the conference.
The platform will function as a centralized reserve system, similar to season rental sites, but with specific technical and operational criteria for major international events. It will also be possible to register alternative accommodations, such as private residences, through criteria defined by the organizers.
Pressure in prices is already felt in the capital of Pará
Preparation for COP30 already impacts Belém’s economy, especially in the accommodation and food sectors. As CNN showed, inflation in the capital of Pará has been high in recent months, pulled precisely by the price adjustments in hotels and restaurants, which have been anticipating the increase in the expected demand for next year.
According to IBGE, the Belém Metropolitan Region recorded in April the largest inflation among the 16 Capitals surveyed for the IPCA, with a feed of 1.14% in the month. Food sectors outside the home and hosting were mainly responsible for the discharge.
Infrastructure and Legacy
The Government of Pará and the City of Belém claim that the lodging platform will be integrated into the broader COP30 infrastructure plan, which includes improvements in urban mobility, sanitation and digital connectivity. The system is expected to continue to be used after the conference, as a legacy for local tourism.
