The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) announced this Friday (27) that Brazil has a stock of S10 diesel oil equivalent to 38 days of import. “If imports of this fuel were stopped today, stocks, together with national production, would be enough to supply the country for 38 days”, says the note from the ministry.
The volume represents an increase of 26.7% since the last monitoring by the ministry, which previously projected 30 days of autonomy.
This Friday, the president of Petrobras, José Mauro Coelho, sent a letter to the National Petroleum Agency (ANP) warning about the “high risk of diesel shortages in the Brazilian market in the second half of 2022”. The decision to officially inform the government was taken at a meeting of the state-owned company’s Board of Directors last Tuesday (25), after a long debate on the subject.
“It is noteworthy that the facts listed by Petrobras in its letter, such as the reduction in the supply and world stocks of diesel oil, due to the global energy situation, and the increase in demand for the product, in the second half of the year, are facts widely known and monitored”, informs the MME.
The ministry says that, due to the situation of the global diesel oil market and the possible impacts for the country, it instituted, on March 10, the “Sectoral Committee for Monitoring the National Supply of Fuels and Biofuels”, of an executive nature. The Committee is coordinated by the MME and has the participation of the ANP, EPE and representative associations and agents of the sector, including the Brazilian Institute of Oil and Gas (IBP), the Association of Fuel Distributors (Brasilcom), the Brazilian Association of Importers of Fuels (Abicom), Acelen and Petrobras. The group meets weekly on Mondays.
“The Ministry of Mines and Energy remains attentive to the movements of the domestic and international market, maintaining intense and constant monitoring to adopt timely measures together with other government bodies in the spheres of their respective competences, according to the evolution of the scenario.”
