Government launches operation against sexual exploitation of minors and arrests more than 580 people

The National Secretariat for Public Security (Senasp), of the Ministry of Justice, concluded and announced this Thursday (18) the result of the Safe Paths operation. The action is to combat the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents and has the support of the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship.

The operation in progress will have data closed this Thursday afternoon, however, the CNN found that, as of 6 am today, 160 people have been rescued as victims of exploitation and 580 adults arrested for the crime.

There are also 46 seized cold weapons, such as knives and stilettos, 53 seized firearms and 3,344 confiscated ammunition.

The numbers of victims rescued and people arrested should increase and the closed data will be presented by the Ministry of Justice in a press conference in the afternoon.

The operation is carried out in partnership with the Federal Highway Police (PRF) to inspect vehicles with minors who are victims of sexual exploitation on the highways that cross Brazil.

Caminhos Seguros, as it was baptized, was launched on May 2, with the objective of intensifying the fight against the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents on highways and waterways, places of vulnerability for the practice of crime in urban areas, according to Senasp.

In addition to the integrated actions of repression, the investigators heard by the report say that the operation also encourages intelligence, inspection and prevention actions.

Operational actions are carried out by the PRF and military police, and some states also engage the civil police and military fire departments, in addition to the support of the tutelary councils.

In the preventive sphere, the operation tends to promote educational activities, such as lectures in schools and distribution of pamphlets on sexual violence, in addition to information on the rights of children and adolescents.

The result of the operation, completed on May 18, is due to the National Day to Combat Abuse and Sexual Exploitation against Children and Adolescents, a date officially determined by Law 9.970/2000.
