The government leader in the Chamber of Deputies, deputy Ricardo Barros (PP-PR), said that the expectation is that the PEC on fuels will be voted on in the Federal Senate as early as next week, Monday (13).
The parliamentarian’s statement was made after a meeting with the Minister of Economy this Wednesday (8). The meeting was not on the agenda of Paulo Guedes, who also received the Minister of Citizenship, Ronaldo Bento.
“Senator Fernando Bezerra must prepare his text, which should be read tomorrow for voting on Monday in the Federal Senate. Next week we will have session Monday in both houses and we hope for a good consensus to quickly vote in the House as well,” he said.
He reinforced the government’s idea that the proposal is a response to the population to ease inflationary pressure.
According to Barros, the sources of compensation necessary for demands being processed in the Legislative were also discussed at the meeting.
In recent days, the government is seeking an agreement with governors to approve a reduction in the ICMS rate, state tax, fuel and other products.
With the argument that they will have a strong loss of revenue, the governors are against the measure. A proposal from the Federal Executive is that the Union compensates for such losses.
However, the economic team has not yet clarified with which resources such compensation would be made.
“I came to update the themes that are in the Congress. Dealing with the necessary sources for demands in Congress and updating the minister on new issues that are being raised,” said Barros.
