Government of Acre declares state of emergency in 17 cities due to heavy rains

Seventeen municipalities in Acre are in a state of emergency due to flooding caused by the overflow of rivers and streams. The measure was published in an extra edition of the state's Official Gazette this Sunday (25) and is valid for 180 days.

The most critical cities are Assis Brasil, Brasileia, Cruzeiro do Sul, Epitaciolândia, Jordão, Rio Branco, Santa Rosa do Purus, Tarauacá and Xapuri.

According to the state government, in Jordão, the situation is particularly serious, with the city almost completely flooded and 651 consumer units without electricity. The city has around 9,222 inhabitants and had a collapse in essential services, such as electricity, drinking water supply, telecommunications and health.

The state government confirmed to the CNN be mobilizing all efforts to assist flood victims. Teams from the Fire Department, Civil and Military Police, in addition to Civil Defense, work to distribute food, drinking water and other basic necessities.

The state of Acre seeks partnerships with the private sector to minimize the impacts of flooding.
