Government of RJ declares dengue epidemic in the state

The Governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro, declared a dengue epidemic in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The decision was announced this Wednesday (21) at a press conference held in the capital of Rio. According to the governor, the decree should be published by tomorrow in the Official State Gazette.

According to the governor, there are already more than 49 thousand cases of dengue reported throughout the state of Rio de Janeiro. Of these, four people died. At the press conference, Claudio Castro highlighted the importance of the decree for the work of government health services. “We decided to declare the epidemic. We believe that this action is important so that we can work calmly and ensure that the population does not lack anything”, said Castro.

Cláudio Castro also announced the creation of a specific Health Emergency Center to treat dengue cases. “It is important to treat dengue in a different way, with a focus on treatment.”

Almost 700 thousand cases in Brazil

The Ministry of Health released this Tuesday (20) an update on dengue cases in Brazil. According to the Arbovirus Monitoring Panel, the country registered 688,461 probable cases of dengue, with 122 confirmed deaths from the disease.

The MS is also investigating whether another 456 deaths are related to dengue. According to the ministry, 55% of probable cases are women and the most affected age group continues to be adults between 30 and 39 years old. Among men, there are already 61,032 diagnoses and 73,424 cases among women in this age group.
