The government of Rio Grande do Sul announced that it will deposit, this Friday (7), half of the 13th salary for state public servants.
The anticipation of 50% of the right, initially scheduled to occur until June 15, was made possible a week earlier due to the crisis faced by the population of Rio Grande do Sul as a result of the floods in May.
The payment, which represents around R$900 million will benefit more than 350 thousand active, inactive and retired employees of the Executive Branch.
The announcement was made during a press conference about new funding for the areas of health and education, totaling more than R$46 million. With other actions, investments reach R$751 million in resources from the State Treasury.
“Many servers were also affected, as was a large part of the population of Rio Grande do Sul. This anticipation is a way of providing conditions to those who were most affected”, stated Governor Eduardo Leite.
He highlighted that the measure will also help communities affected by the rains economically.
Furthermore, on Wednesday (5), the government said that will pay an additional salary for adjustments to some paychecks that had outstanding bonuses due to the unavailability of the systems on certain days.
Impact of floods on the economy
The Federation of Business Entities of Rio Grande do Sul (Federasul) estimates that between R$110 billion and R$176 billion will be needed to rebuild the infrastructure lost in the state due to the rains.
This amount is higher than the R$100 billion spent in the last 30 years on environmental disasters in Brazil.
The Federasul study, based on data from the federal government and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), highlights that the lack of data makes a more precise analysis difficult. However, the climate catastrophe is already impacting the economy of Rio Grande do Sul.
According to the vice-president of Federasul, Fernando Marchet, the projected growth of 4% for 2024 was revised to a drop of 0.77%.
In a pessimistic scenario, this drop could reach 2%. “It is a significant reduction, with the potential to worsen even further,” said Marchet.
