The state of Santa Catarina received relief from the rains this Sunday (5), after one person died and several cities reported damage. The breather, however, has an expiration date. The state expects to have more rain from Tuesday (7). According to Climatempo's forecast, the rain, however, is not expected to return until Tuesday, and could affect the state for the rest of the week.
Governor Jorginho Mello (PL) will start Monday (6) with a helicopter flyover to assess the conditions of the most affected cities. State Civil Defense teams will also continue to monitor weather conditions and impacts from the air and on maps. The cities are undergoing cleaning and what was broken began to be rebuilt in the last two days.
There was an expectation that the state could send new support troops to Rio Grande do Sul, but faced with the possibility of new rains, the government backed down and decided to maintain the force, just by changing officers.
The troops that will make the exchange will leave Araranguá, in the extreme south of the state. In the afternoon, the government will publish an updated bulletin with the forecast for the coming days.
Rio Grande do Sul also on alert
The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued, on Sunday afternoon (5), a warning of potential danger for a storm in the extreme south of Rio Grande do Sul, in a region that encompasses cities such as Pelotas, Rio Grande, Bagé and Uruguaiana.
Inmet predicts rainfall of 20 to 30 mm/h in the region, with the total water accumulated in 24 hours reaching 50 mm. Winds between 40 and 60 km/h and hail are also expected to occur in the area.
O alert is valid until 12pm (BrasÃlia time) this Monday (6) .
The rains that hit Rio Grande Sul caused interruptions in water, energy and telephone services, as well as damage to highways and changes in traffic, according to a bulletin released by the state government. More than 70 people died and more than 854,000 people were left without water.
The state is experiencing the worst climate tragedy in history.
