Government of São Paulo extends the mandatory use of masks until January 31

The governor of São Paulo, João Doria, decided to extend until January 31, 2022 the decree that establishes the mandatory use of masks in the state. The measure should be announced this Monday (20).

Doria even announced the suspension of the mandatory use of masks in the state, a measure that should have taken effect on December 11th.

However, with the advancement of the Ômicron variant in the world, which now registers more than 30 recognized cases in Brazil, the governor backed down from the decision and extended the mandatory use of the protective mask.

Last Friday (17), the City of São Paulo confirmed the existence of community transmission of the variant in the city.

According to the Municipal Health Department (SMS), the variant was found in two women, aged 22 and 65, and in a man, aged 30. None of them reported recent travel abroad or contact with a traveler who had arrived from Brazil. outside.

On that date, the municipal administration confirmed the appearance of three more cases. In all, there are already 13 positive diagnoses for the strain in the city.

Until then, the identified cases were related to a 67-year-old patient, which allowed the Health Department to identify Ômicron transmissions as a “localized cluster”.

According to city authorities, the cases identified last Friday are not related to the 67-year-old man, which indicates the existence of other transmission clusters throughout the city.
