Government of São Paulo will expand integral education to 3,000 schools by 2023

This Tuesday (22) the government of São Paulo announced that the Comprehensive Education Program (PEI) will cover 3,000 schools in 494 cities in São Paulo by 2023.

The expansion of the PEI will take place to 950 schools, with 100 still in 2022 and 850 in 2023. This school year, 973 schools have already joined the program.

The state governor, João Dória, said that the priority is education, which is the future of Brazil.

“If we manage to go from 364 schools to 2,050 full-time institutions in less than three years, it is possible to do it when you want to do it”, said Dória.

The PEI was created in 2012 and aims to expand the integral learning of students.

In this way, students start to have a curricular matrix that includes study orientation, practical experiences in science.

Last year, 448,000 students were assisted in the program, according to the State Secretary of Education, Rossieli Soares.

The program is offered for the first years (1st to 5th year), to the final years (6th to 9th year) and for high school students.

The first from 7 am to 2 pm and 2:15 pm to 9:15 pm. In the second, classes take place between 7 am and 4 pm.

Interested schools should express interest to the Education Board, along with dialogues with the school community.

Approval, however, will be defined by a technical analysis and prioritization of the largest and most vulnerable units, according to a government note.
