Government of SP launches notice that expands the use of body cameras in PMs

The government of São Paulo published this Wednesday (22) a notice that aims to expand the use of body cameras in military police.

According to the Public Security Secretariat, the expectation is that the tender will generate savings of between 30% and 50% per piece of equipment in relation to the previous contract.

The ministry adds that there will be an 18% increase in the amount of equipment available to security agents. Furthermore, according to the São Paulo Public Security department, the devices are capable of facial recognition, reading vehicle license plates and live broadcasts.

For the Secretary of Public Security, Guilherme Derrite, in addition to inspection and control, the devices will be used as a way of becoming “allies” of the corporation and the community.

“It will be of assistance in future investigations of any type of crime. Several companies already have the technological capacity to meet this demand, which aims to expand the functionalities of the body camera”, highlighted the secretary.

Regarding previously used cameras, the secretariat says that the equipment will be returned to the company that won the bid at the time of contracting. However, in order not to interrupt the use of the cameras, if necessary, the PM will renew the agreement until the end of the new tender.
