The Jair Bolsonaro government is preparing to deliver this week a Proposal for a Constitutional Amendment (PEC) to subsidize fuel. The text is expected to reach Congress by Wednesday (8), before President Bolsonaro’s trip to the United States.
According to interlocutors from the Planalto, the understanding of the political wing of the government is that it is necessary to make a hard and fast intervention that justifies the reduction in prices so that positive returns can be obtained in the elections.
The Ministry of Economy is already drafting a text, according to the president’s assistants. The idea is that this measure, which is being drafted, is temporary, lasting six months.
The deadline is for direct interference in this year’s elections. The possibility of declaring a state of calamity was not ruled out.
The reading is that election polls have shown that Bolsonaro is being blamed for inflation and, therefore, he would need to do something so that people notice that he is acting to stop an economic crisis.
The political wing of the government also hopes that the PEC, even if it depends on the support of three-fifths of deputies and senators, will be approved quickly, as it would be something that would help reduce the financial loss of a large part of the population.
The Planalto has not yet officially manifested itself.
