Government raises GDP projection in 2022 from 2% to 2.7% and sees lower inflation

The economic team of the federal government raised the official forecast for the performance of economic activity this year from 2% to 2.7%, according to data from the Economic Policy Secretariat (SPE) of the Ministry of Economy, released this Thursday morning ( 15).

This is the second consecutive increase in the indicator. According to the SPE, the increase is explained “by the result above the projected for the activity of the 2nd quarter of 2022 and positive indicators that began to be released for the second half of this year”.

For 2023, the estimate for GDP (Gross Domestic Product) was maintained at 2.5%.

Inflation expectations, measured by the IPCA (National Broad Consumer Price Index), for the year were reduced to 6.3%. In the last bulletin, the inflation projection in 2022 was 7.2%. For 2023, the level was maintained at 4.5%. The values ​​are still above the ceiling of the target defined by the National Monetary Council (CMN).

According to the Secretariat, the continuity of activity growth throughout this second semester is expected.

“The first releases for the month of July suggest that industry, services and the job market continue to grow. The confidence series confirm the positive expectations for 3Q22, with widespread expansion in the various sectors.”, states the Bulletin.
