Government recognizes emergency situation in 14 municipalities of PE due to rains

The Federal Government recognized, this Monday (30), an emergency situation in cities affected by heavy rains that hit the state of Pernambuco.

According to the publication in the Diário Oficial da União, the municipalities of Cabo de Santo Agostinho, Camaragibe, Goiana, Jaboatão dos Guararapes, Macaparana, Moreno, Nazaré da Mata, Olinda, Paudalho, Paulista, São José da Coroa Grande, São Vicente Férrer and Timbaúba, in addition to the capital Recife, are in a state of emergency.

According to the system of the National Center for Monitoring and Alerts of Natural Disasters (Cemaden), nine municipalities in the metropolitan region of Recife are still classified as being at very high risk for rains and landslides.

So far, 84 deaths have been confirmed as a result of the storms in the state.

Resource release

The federal government announced that this Monday (30th) the sending of funds from the Ministry of Regional Development to municipalities that have already declared a situation of emergency or public calamity should be released.

It was also announced the release of interest-free loans from the BPC (Benefício de Prestação Continuada) without interest.

The first resources that are transferred by the Ministry will be destined to what Minister Daniel Ferreira called “relief and humanitarian assistance”, such as hygiene kits, cleaning, mattresses, basic food baskets, fuel and food for rescue teams.
