Government regularizes situation of 287,000 Venezuelan refugees in Operation Welcome

The federal government announced, on Sunday (26), that it closed the year 2021 with the regularization of approximately 287,000 migrants and refugees from Venezuela through Operation Welcome.

The measure was created in 2018 to provide humanitarian assistance to Venezuelans who enter Brazil through the state of Roraima. The service consists of receiving, identifying, sanitary inspection, immunization, migratory regularization and refugee screening.

Since the beginning of the operation, around 64,000 people have been sheltered in 700 municipalities. According to the Civil House, more than 1 million services were provided at the border, with the issuance of 335,000 Individual Taxpayers’ Registers (CPFs).

For accommodation, twelve shelters are available in Boa Vista. Four are exclusively for indigenous peoples, in addition to a fifth in the border town of Pacaraima (RR).

“Even during this period of pandemic, we welcomed these people, provided all the necessary infrastructure, food, medicines and civil registration, through the Ministry of Justice”, declared the Minister of Citizenship, João Roma.
