The Ministry of Justice reported that it will charge a daily fine of R$ 10,000 from electricity concessionaires that do not reduce ICMS on the next electricity bill.
The decision was published in an extra edition of the “Official Journal of the Union”. Complementary project 194/2022, which limited the collection of ICMS on electricity to 17% or 18%, was sanctioned in June, but some units of the federation did not adopt the percentage.
The measure, according to reports made to the CNN by government auxiliaries, is part of a political effort to increase the perception of the low-income electorate of positive news in the economic sphere.
Today, a large part of the increase in Auxílio Brasil, which went from R$400 to R$600, has been used to pay household bills, such as water and electricity, leaving few resources for the purchase of food.
The diagnosis made by members of the reelection campaign is that spending on domestic accounts has hampered the growth of President Jair Bolsonaro over the electorate that earns up to two minimum wages.
The polls Ipespe, Genial/Quaest, Datafolha and Ipec show that former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, of the PT, leads this electorate, which represents the majority of the Brazilian population.
