Vice President Hamilton Mourão said this Monday (14) that the federal government is seeking solutions with Congress to contain the rise in fuel prices.
“The government is looking for solutions together with Congress, whether it’s changing the ICMS calculation, the issue of substance for stabilization, reducing PIS/Cofins to 0. With the solutions that are being sought, in the difficult moment of the world of conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the trend is for the price to return to previous levels,” he told reporters.
Mourão also said that an intervention in Petrobras’ pricing policy would not be positive. “Price intervention is something we know how to start and the end is always a mess”.
The vice president also said that the current president of the oil company, General Silva e Luna, “is resilient”. “The good northeast can handle pressure”.
Born in Pernambuco, Luna has been under pressure after Petrobras announced last week an increase in the price of gasoline, diesel and cooking gas. The variation is the largest in the current high cycle, started by the state-owned company in January 2021, when fuel prices began to climb in the country.
