The Ministers of Economy, Paulo Guedes and Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, are scheduled to meet this Tuesday with ministers of the Federal Audit Court (TCU) to advance with the privatization of Eletrobras.
According to the Minister of Mines and Energy, “it will be a meeting to expose the company’s capitalization process and the advantages of having it back on the market”.
Since 2014, Eletrobras has not participated in energy auctions due to lack of investment capacity. The government’s expectation is that the final judgment on Eletrobras’ privatization will take place in April.
The first stage of Eletrobras privatization was released last month. In February, the TCU approved a report by Minister Aroldo Cedraz in favor of the process. On the occasion, another minister, Vital do Rêgo, pointed out flaws in the calculation of the privatization value, but the vote was defeated.
This Tuesday’s meeting takes place amidst the discomfort of members of the court with the appointment of a person from Cedraz’s core to the board of the National Petroleum Agency (ANP). For two ministers of the court heard by the CNN Brazil, subject to reservation, the indication is seen as a bargaining chip. This is because the nominee, account auditor Daniel Maia, is brother-in-law with lawyer Tiago Cedraz, son of Aroldo Cedraz.
When contacted, Cedraz’s office and the TCU did not respond.
