Government zeroes import tax on “smartwatch”, steel sheet and aluminum sheet

The vice-president of the Republic, Geraldo Alckmin, announced this Friday (10) that the Foreign Trade Chamber temporarily zeroed the import tax on six products, including the “smartwatch”.

The six products that had zero tax were two types of steel sheets, two types of aluminum sheets, wrist models of devices to measure blood pressure and pulse rate, and antennas for radar.

Popular smart watches have blood pressure and pulse measurement among their main functions. The import tax on these products varied between 12% and 16%.

In a publication on social networks, Geraldo Alckmin stated that the measure “gives the industry savings for the acquisition of these items – especially industries that produce value-added items, in addition to medical products – and directly benefits the final consumer”.
