Gracyanne eats 9 eggs a day at BBB: is too much bad? Understand

Since being announced as a participant in BBB 25, Gracyanne Barbosa has generated curiosity among the public about how they will be able to maintain their strict diet throughout confinement. The fitness influencer stated that she usually eats 40 eggs daily and, in her first two days on the reality show, she already consumed 18 eggs in total.

The edition of the program even created an “ovometer” to count the number of eggs that the sister will consume inside the house. “I eat, guys, 40 eggs a day! I’m going to have to bargain a lot to be able to eat these eggs”, said Gracyanne, who entered the house with her sister, Giovanna Jacobina. “I’m going to exchange eggs for bread and chocolate”, he commented at another time.

Egg consumption has become popular especially in the fitness world in recent years as it is a practical and versatile source of protein.

For many years, the ingredient was considered a villain in healthy eating, mainly due to its alleged negative impact on cholesterol levels . However, recent research has shown that it may be a important ally for health providing a series of nutritional benefits.

“The egg has good quality proteins, making it an excellent nutritional option for a protein source, as well as vitamins, such as B12, antioxidants and fats. The choline present in eggs plays an important role in brain function. As it is a very nutritious and easily accessible food, it becomes a very good option for breakfast, meals and snacks”, explains Monica Pasco, nutritionist at the Hospital do Servidor Público Estadual (HSPE), in an article previously published in CNN .

However, according to Rodrigo Schröder, a nutritionist specializing in high performance, the popularity of eggs among athletes and physical activity practitioners goes beyond its protein concentration.

“B complex vitamins that help with energy metabolism and essential fatty acids that can help with muscle recovery. It’s almost a multivitamin, the only thing missing is vitamin C,” he explains.

Is there a healthy limit for consuming eggs?

Gracyanne is not the only one to rely on eggs as the main source of protein in her daily diet. Recently, influencer Virginia Fonseca revealed eating 20 eggs a day as part of a restrictive diet to regain the body composition she had before becoming pregnant with her third child with singer Zé Felipe, José Leonardo.

According to Schröder, there is no upper limit for egg consumption. “However, any food that is consumed excessively can cause food intolerance, whether it be eggs or another food”, explains the doctor.

On the other hand, it is important to combine eggs with other sources of nutrients. According to nutritionist Marcella Garcez, director and professor of the National Nutrology Course at the Brazilian Association of Nutrology (Abran), a diet restricting the consumption of eggs can lead to nutritional imbalance. “If this chronic consumption is not accompanied by calcium and vitamin D intake, it can compromise bone mineral density”, explains the specialist in an article previously published in CNN .

In general, it is important that the amount of eggs consumed per day is determined by a health professional, such as a nutritionist or nutritionist, according to individual needs and aesthetic and/or sporting goals.

When can eggs be harmful?

Eggs have allergenic potential, especially in children, and, in these cases, can pose health risks. “Symptoms can include hives, breathing problems, stomach pain and in severe cases, anaphylaxis. Egg intolerance can result in digestive symptoms such as gas and bloating,” says Schröder.

Additionally, people with specific health conditions, such as high cholesterol or heart problems, should consult a doctor to find out the appropriate amount of eggs they can consume.

“There are people with genetic predispositions for dyslipidemia [doença que ocorre quando os níveis de gordura no sangue estão alterados] When they overconsume this food, they may experience changes such as increased cholesterol levels. Consuming raw or undercooked eggs can be a source of infection as well. Guidance from a nutritionist is always important to adapt the consumption of this food”, adds Pasco.
