The war in Ukraine is in a “new phase” of the conflict, but the impasse persists, according to the professor of contemporary history at USP, Angelo Segrillo.
“Neither side can definitively defeat the other. While Ukraine is not able to fully repel Russian incursions into breakaway areas, Russia cannot fully dominate the Ukrainians,” she said in an interview with CNN Radio.
At the same time, the professor sees the signing of both nations for a grain export agreement – which had the first ship leaving the port of Odessa this Monday (1) – as positive.
“It has a positive impact, even in this difficult war in which the sides do not even talk, they made this agreement with the UN and Turkey, it is a good sign, and it may give signs of further progress, who knows, of a ceasefire.”
Even so, Segrillo points out that there are challenges, since “everything is very difficult” and subject to change.
“The route to be traveled by ships, for example, is extremely dangerous, they have to be escorted because it is a mined region.”
For the professor, it is difficult for Ukraine to regain the regions dominated by Russia, but it could use the weapons provided by the West to try to contain further expansion.
