That’s how the Grand Hotel Tremezzo, beaten only by Belmond Cap Juluca in Anguilla, beats the ranking of the 30 most loved hotels on the Forbes Instagram profile. And it does it for two very good reasons: the swimming pool, which overlooks Lake Como with a magnificent view and the very rich breakfast, which can be enjoyed comfortably in your room or on the terrace, always overlooking the lake.
On March 31st, the hotel will finally reopen its doors and will be ready to welcome customers again.
The Grand Hotel Tremezzo is an Art Nuoveau icon located on the western shore of Lake Como. On the other side you can see Bellagio with the Villa Melzi d’Eril and its splendid gardens. A few steps from the hotel instead we find the well known Villa Carlotta, to be seen in spring, with the gardens in bloom that attract tourists from all over the world.
When you arrive by car from the panoramic road that runs along the lake, the facade of the hotel is immediately recognizable for the orange curtains and the grand staircase that hides the large halls, restaurant rooms, gardens and swimming pools from passers-by. Yes, because the hotel not only boasts a swimming pool on the lake, but also has another one hidden in the greenery. And it is to these relaxation areas that it owes its second position in the Forbes ranking.
The pool
There are three swimming pools where you can relax:
1. the WOW ossia Water-On-Water, a floating pool on the lake, in front of the private beach
2. the Flower Pool, immersed in the quiet of the centuries-old park
3. the Infinity pool, a splendid indoor swimming pool that connects directly with the T Spa
But let’s find out more about breakfast, which also led to the third position in the standings at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo: every morning at breakfast the guest table is filled with a buffet, a wide selection of delicacies ranging from freshly made croissants and jams, fruit salads, tartare, smoothies, different types of local honey, chocolate delights and other changing Italian delicacies every day according to the season choosing from the chef’s specialties. In addition, a selection of Italian cheeses, and of course any type of eggs, crepes, waffles, pancakes freshly prepared following the customer’s preferences, making breakfast a moment of pure joy. The buffet breakfast experience has always been one of the highlights of staying at the Grand Hotel. If guests prefer to have breakfast in their room in complete privacy, they can absolutely do so (also included in the nightly rate).
A bit of history
Opened in 1910, the Grand Hotel Tremezzo was designed for the elite travelers of the time. The Belle Époque was a fantastic time to experience. The jet-set embarked on long journeys overseas in search of art, culture and knowledge and Lake Como was among the favorite destinations. In the 1932 film of the same name, Greta Garbo refers to the Grand Hotel as «that happy, sunny place»: this is how the modern concept of vacation was born. And this is the same concept that the current owner, the De Santis family – who will soon open a new exceptional hotel on the lake – wants to offer their guests.
Rooms
The hotel has 90 rooms and suites, all characterized by a breathtaking view of the waters of the lake or of the centuries-old park of 20,000 square meters, which joins the botanical gardens of the aristocratic Villa Carlotta. The finely furnished Rooftop Suites on the top floor have a terrace with outdoor jacuzzi and private concierge service.
La T Spa
The T Spa, today offers over 1,000 square meters. of space dedicated to well-being “tailored to the lake” with treatments by Officina Santa Maria Novella. With its splendid indoor pool with panoramic views, its luxurious treatment cabins, the nail studio, a very private “Spa Suite” and a precious oriental-inspired Hammam, it completes its offer with a new wet area, with sauna overlooking the lake, bathroom steam and Mediterranean bath. To make it even more special are the period rooms of the eighteenth-century Villa Emilia, with frescoed ceilings and mosaic floors.
The restaurants
Gualtiero Marchesi Terrace: the gourmet restaurant “La Terrazza Gualtiero Marchesi” is a journey that began eight years ago with the Maestro, whose great dream was to bring his restaurant to the Grand Hotel Tremezzo. The Gualtiero Marchesi Terrace today it is the only restaurant of the Gualtiero Marchesi Group to re-propose its iconic dishes in an integral way, which revolutionized Italian cuisine and brought it to the center of international creativity, from rice and gold to open ravioli, from the dripping of Pollock to the Rosso and Il Nero di Fontana, from the spaghetti salad with caviar to the Rossini fillet according to Gualtiero Marchesi.
