A marriage that has managed to spend a lifetime together is that made up of Ron and Joyce Bond, considered one of the longest in the entire United Kingdom, and boy, their love has defied one of the greatest tests: time.
Ron and Joyce Bond are a couple of 102 and 100 years, respectively, who have been together for more than eight decades. These grandparents celebrated their 81st anniversary on January 4 and are still as in love as the day they met.
The English couple met at Bletchley and married at Newport Pagnell in 1941, when they were 21 and 19 years old. Joyce still remembers that distant day, when the streets were covered with snow and the lines at the registration offices were very long because many men would be sent to war.
“We both give and receive”
They currently have children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. When asked about the secret to such a long and successful marriage, Joyce states that both are equal in the relationship: there is no one “ruler”. In addition, he says that they both know how lucky they are to continue with the love of their lives after so many years.
We did not expect to reach these 81 years of marriage, we know that we are very lucky, it is excellent. There is not one that sends more than the other, we both give and receive.
For his part, Ron says that while life isn’t always easy, a strong marriage like theirs knows how to overcome obstacles and how to take care of each other.
