Great Britain: asylum seekers entered Rwanda illegally

They defined it as part of a ‘partnership for economic development’. Certainly humanitarian organizations don’t see it that way. The British government has presented a plan to combat immigration which provides that part of the asylum seekers who entered the country illegally are sent to Rwanda to handle their requests. It is not a temporary move, there is no certainty of returning to the UK.

The piamo theoretically concerns an unlimited number of people. There are no fixed numerical limits and therefore it could affect thousands of people who have illegally crossed the Channel. The choice of London stems from a management of migrants that does not work. More than 5000 people arrived in 2022, 28 thousand those arrived in 2021. Dozens of people have died in these illegal crossings of the Channel.

Boris Johnson talks about the choice as the way to put an end to human trafficking, to save lives. Those who attempt illegal entry will be “quickly, and in a dignified manner, sent to a safe third country or to the country of origin”. The premier defined it as «an innovative approach, driven by our humanitarian impulse and made possible by the freedoms granted by the Brexitwhich will provide safe and legal avenues for asylum ».

For the Labor opposition it is “impractical and immoral”, for the NGOs it is a cruel project. Legal objections have already been hypothesized. “We are convinced that our plan fully respects our international obligations but despite this we expect legal recourses and if this country is considered weak towards illegal immigration by some of our partners it is because of a host of politicized lawyers who for years done business by hindering deportations and limiting government action ”.

The Rwanda, ground of the genocide between Hutu and Tutsi in 1994, it is the most densely populated state in Africa. The migrants who arrive here will have aid for up to five years, with professional training, accommodation and medical assistance.
