Great Britain: Prepares a large humanitarian aid program for Ukraine

THE Great Britain announced in advance that it would finance a humanitarian aid program for Ukraine, involving essential food supplies totaling € 2.3 million for cities under siege by Russian troops, in response to a request from the Ukrainian government.

One month after its start war in Ukrainewhich Russia describes as a “special military operation”, the Russian army has failed to capture any of the Ukrainian major cities and has resorted to “pounding” them with artillery fire and air strikes.

The worst hit is Mariupol, in eastern Ukraine, a city of 400,000 under siege since the early days of the war. Tens of thousands of people are estimated to remain trapped without food, water or heating.

Great Britain reported that about 25 trucks with dry food, cans and water will be sent by road and rail from warehouses in Poland and Slovakia to the cities of Ukraine that have the greatest needs.

“The needs on the territory of Ukraine are clear, with so many people in the besieged areas trapped in basements without food and water”said Alice Hooper, British Foreign Office Adviser on Humanitarian Crisis. “We are working with partners at the border to ensure that these vital UK supplies reach where they are needed most, as soon as possible”he added.
