Great earthquake “shaken” the southern Atlantic: tsunami warning – Authorities on alert

A strong earthquake magnitude 7.5 on the Richter scale occurred on Thursday night in the southern Atlantic Ocean, the United States Geological Services announced. Although Chilean authorities immediately issued a warning of a possible tsunami in Antarctic sections, no evacuation orders for Chile or Argentina were immediately issued, the two countries closest to the focus were issued. The earthquake occurred at 11:16 pm Local Argentinean time, about 710 kilometers southeast of the Ushusia, during Drake, according to the US Geological Services. The focal depth is estimated at 10.8 kilometers. The Drake Pass connects the South Atlantic with the South Pacific Ocean, between the southern end of South America and the Antarctic Peninsula, according to Newsday.
