Almost a year ago, Google started working on adding call recording support to the Google Phone app. The feature was introduced to the Pixel lineup shortly thereafter, followed by several Nokia and Xiaomi devices. Google is currently working on improving this feature to help you automatically record calls from unknown numbers.
Parsing the latest update for the Google Phone app (version 59) revealed new lines of code indicating upcoming features. The code mentions some new dialog messages that will warn users about this feature once it’s released.
«You or the other person on the call may be in a country where consent is required for recording. Everyone will be notified in advance that the call is being recorded. You must obey the laws on recording conversations. The records are only stored on your phone».

After the disclaimer, users will see a confirmation dialog asking if they want to enable automatic call recording for numbers that are not in their contact list. It will include two options: Always Record and Cancel. The lines of code also mention a switch for a function that should appear in the app’s settings.
The source adds that while you can install the Google Phone app on almost all Android devices, the call recording feature is only available on select phones in certain regions.
