Greece deconstructs what Turkey claims about its rapprochement with Egypt

In the deconstruction of its claims Turkey Through Mevlüt Çavuşoλουlu, the Greek side proceeded to approach Egypt.

Specifically, diplomatic sources state the following:

“Greece is following with interest the statements of one Turkish Foreign Minister about an alleged invitation to Egypt to delimit the EEZ between the two countries, which, according to Arab media, have not found a response and on the other the particularly sharp intervention by the Egyptian Foreign Minister at the recent meeting of the Arab League.

In particular, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Sukri, in his speech at the Arab League ministerial meeting a few days ago, said, among other things, that Egypt has made every effort to contribute to the consolidation of security and peace in Libya and to address of the obscure ideas promoted by some countries.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister also referred to the meeting of the Arab Ministerial Commission for the monitoring of Turkish interventions.

The meeting confirmed the categorical rejection of Turkish interventions in the region, which include the presence of Turkish military forces in the territories of Arab countries. The Egyptian Foreign Minister went on to say that these policies have undoubtedly only brought about a deepening of polarization and differences.

It is recalled in this regard that a special Committee of the Arab League has been set up to examine Turkish intervention in the internal affairs of the Arab countries. The commission includes Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Iraq and the Secretary-General of the Arab League.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister, referring to Syria, argued that the political solution should proceed along with the removal of all foreign forces from Syrian territory, starting with the Turkish occupation.

Following the meeting of the Arab League Minister, the Secretary General of the Arab League and former Egyptian Foreign Minister, Ahmed Abul Gheit, whose term of office has just been renewed, referred to the Libya, Iraq, the Caucasus, in the “conflicts” as he characteristically calls them with Greece and Cyprus and concluded that all this will not have a good end for Turkey.

There is also a direct reaction of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, which rejected the decisions of the Arab League and at the same time referred to countries within the Arab League, which impose their views.

The communiqué, without naming these countries, apparently refers to Egypt, especially considering that, with the exception of one, all the secretaries-general were Egyptian and that the seat of the Organization was in Cairo.

Finally, the analysis published two days ago in the Jerusalem Post, entitled: “Turkey is trying to offend Greece and Egypt with a fantastic (imaginary) agreement on maritime areas” is of particular interest.

This article refers to a series of Turkish publications that were reproduced last December regarding an alleged Israeli-Turkish agreement on the EEZ, which would have ignored Greece and Cyprus. According to the Israeli newspaper, these reports are false and misleading news.

In this context, it is pointed out that after the failure of this effort, Turkey has indulged in the dispersal of new “propaganda”, as it states, publications, this time addressed to Egypt.
