Greece is in talks with Italy to see if it can store gas in its neighboring country as part of efforts to secure supplies if Russian flow is disrupted, the head of RAE told Reuters.
The EU agreed last month to fill the warehouses in anticipation of winter in order to have a cushion for supplies. Greece does not have storage facilities for natural gas and will need to store enough gas in other countries to cover 15% of annual use, which reached 7 billion cubic meters last year, the agency said.
“We are examining what quantities can be stored and what can be used at a technical level,” RAE President Athanasios Dagoumas told reporters.
Athens is close to finalizing its proposal before presenting it to the European Commission, Dagoumas said.
The agency also refers to Greece’s plan to add a floating liquefied natural gas tank to the Revythousa terminal, boosting its storage capacity by 130,000 cubic meters.
