Greece is a vast construction site in 2022 – Auctions amounting to 1 + 1 € billion.

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport aspires to transform the country into a vast construction site with the start and implementation of major projects, after a long period of stagnation in the industry.

Tenders for projects totaling 1 billion are already coming out at the end of the year and additional projects totaling 1 billion are planned to be auctioned in the first months of 2022.

By the end of the year, binding bids will be submitted for three large PPP projects worth 1 billion euros. These are the projects Hersonissos – Neapoli of BOAK, Flyover in Thessaloniki and Kalamata – Rizomylos – Pylos – Methoni.

In the tender for the project “Design, Construction, Financing, Operation and Maintenance of the Road Axis of Southwest Peloponnese, Department Kalamata – Rizomylos – Pylos – Methoni, with PPP”, budget 312 million euros, have been invited to submit Avax, Aktor Concessions, Intrakat, GEK TERNA and the joint venture Acciona Concesiones – Mytilineos.

The project concerns the construction, financing, operation and maintenance of the National Road Kalamata – Rizomylos – Pylos – Methoni, with a total length of about 50 kilometers.

For the end of the year, the submission of financial bids is planned for the new Eastern Ring Road of Thessaloniki, or Flyover, which includes the creation of a new, overland highway, with a total budget of 370 million euros.

Five groups have expressed interest in the project: AVAX SA, GEK-TERNA SA, AKTOR CONCESSIONS SA, INTRACAT and the consortium “MYTILINEOS SA – INTERTOLL EUROPE ZRt.

The pioneering project, unique of its kind in Greece, concerns 13 kilometers, with 9 uneven junctions, 4 kilometers of continuous Flyover bridge, 8 new bridges and 3 new tunnels. The budget is 370 million euros and will be financed with PPPs.

Finally, within December, the tender for the award of the Public-Private Partnership Contract of the project “Northern Road Axis of Crete / Design, Construction, Financing, Operation and Maintenance of the Hersonissos – Neapoli section with SDI” is expected.

The competition is attended by “GEK TERNA”, “AKTOR CONCESSIONS”, “ASSOCIATION OF PERSONS ARIADNE HIGHWAY”, in which AVAX participates with MARGUERITE, and the “UNION OF PERSONS INTER. The PPP contract will last for 30 years, with 4 of them relating to the construction period of the project.

The project has a total budget of 350 million euros.

The projects to come

In addition to the above, three more important infrastructure projects are expected to be auctioned in the first months of 2022.

These are the Bypass of Chalkida and Psachna, the connection of Kymi Avenue with PATHE, Bralos – Amfissa and Neapoli – Ag. Nikolaos of BOAK, with a total budget of 1 billion euros.

One of the most mature projects in the country, that of the Chalkida Bypass and Psachna Bypass, for which the Ministry of Infrastructure is launching its construction, aims to improve the connection of Athens and Chalkida with northern Evia, in the decongestion of the urban fabric of Chalkida, of N. Artaki and Psachna with the passing traffic to be channeled to the new road and the efficiency in the traffic of a single and safe road axis.

The bypass of Chalkida has been announced in the past, however it was never auctioned as the technical specifications and the financing of the project had not reached a satisfactory degree of maturity.

The launch of the project, with a total length of 25.6 km, in addition to the decongestion of the areas that will pass, will be a strong symbolism, as it will be the first road project in the prefecture in the last 50 years.

The budget of the “Bralos – Afissa Road” of the diagonal axis Laia-Itea – Antirrio amounts to 285 million euros, part of the Diagonal Road “Laia – Itea – Antirrio” is a major project of infrastructure and development “E-65” road network, is the connecting axis between the PATHE Motorways and the IONIAN ROAD and serves a number of local and wider Movements from Central and Northern Greece to areas of the Western and Southern country.

Upon completion, one will be able to move from the area of ​​Lamia to Patras without passing through Attica and Corinth, in about 80 minutes.

Finally, the “Neapoli-Agios Nikolaos” section of VOAK, 15 km long, is being put up for auction, with funding from the Recovery Fund and with an estimated cost of 145 million euros.
