Greece is once again the most popular holiday destination for Serbian travelers, despite the temporary stagnation in international bookings due to the war in Ukraine and its aftermath.
This message completed EOT’s participation in the 43rd International Fair of Tourism (IFT) 2022 in Belgrade, which is considered the most important industry in the Western Balkans. This year’s exhibition was centrally titled “Between Mountains and Seas” and took place from March 24 to 27, reopening after being canceled last year due to a pandemic.
EOT participated with an impressive kiosk of 210 sq.m., in which co-authors were the Regions of Eastern Macedonia-Thrace, Epirus, Western Greece, Ionian Islands and Crete, the Municipality of Volos, the Halkidiki Tourism Organization and private companies.
The Greek pavilion attracted the interest of a large number of visitors, including important tourism entrepreneurs from Serbia and a number of journalists, who sought more specific information on the current conditions of entry into our country and the prospect of easing health protocols. Also, on March 25, a special event was held for the anniversary of the Greek Revolution, with the participation of the Greek Ambassador to Serbia, George Diakofotakis, leading tourism agents of the country, representatives of Serbian media, executives of the organizing company of IFT, etc.
At the same time, presentations of various destinations were posted on the website of the Exhibition, including Greece under the title “Greece – A year round destination” (https://beogradskisajamturizma.rs/en/greece-a-year-round-destination/) , while the organizers launched this year the talkb2b application for direct networking of participants with byers.
A total of 416 exhibitors from 26 countries took part in the Exhibition, with visitors showing significant interest in special forms of tourism, such as mountain, cultural and gastronomic.

In addition, on March 24, the head of the EOT Service of the United Kingdom & Ireland, Eleni Skarveli, participated as a keynote speaker at an event in London of the leading British professional magazine “Travel Weekly” on the new environment created in the tourist and international and title: “Travel Weekly Business Breakfast”.
The event was also attended by Virgin Atlantic Vice President of Sales Lee Haslett, Cosmos and Avalon Waterways CEO Giles Hawke, and Not Just Travel co-founder Hays Travel subsidiary Steve Witt. coordinated by Travel Weekly editor Ian Taylor.
The discussion addressed issues such as staff shortages in tourism businesses as a result of the pandemic, the impact on bookings from the war in Ukraine, the challenges facing the tourism sector from the energy crisis and international fuel prices, and the general perspectives on the viability of the tourism industry.
