Greece will request a central mechanism from the EU to deal with the energy crisis

By Harry Floudopoulos

The Greek request for a structured European response to address the effects of the Ukrainian energy crisis will be returned by the Prime Minister to the extraordinary EU summit. scheduled for tonight.

The Greek proposal, which was presented for the first time in the autumn at the beginning of the energy crisis, predicts, as each state alone can not cope with the effects of high energy prices, that there will be a central level fund that will provide additional resources to Member States with the aim of supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in particular, without creating a budgetary problem.

In particular, the September proposal provided for the use of carbon dioxide emissions that are frozen in the market stabilization mechanism.

As the Minister of Energy K. Skrekas stated during a conference organized by Hellenic Production, on energy and industry, Greece will continue to use the revenues from the auctions of pollutants and the surpluses of ELAPE, in order to continue to support households. and businesses to absorb some of the increases.

According to Mr. Skrekas, in the first two months of the year, the companies were strengthened with a subsidy of 65 euros / megawatt hour, which absorbed 30 to 50% of the increase. The subsidies will continue for as long as the crisis lasts, said Mr. Skrekas, adding that proportionally Greece gives more money than any other EU member state. “We are committed to using the last available euro to support households and businesses,” he said, adding that aid would be increased if additional resources were provided by the EU, which is unlikely to happen. said Mr. Skrekas.

Referring to the initiatives to strengthen industry and businesses, Mr. Skrekas said, among other things:

– the increase of net metering from 1 to 3 MW
– the possibility of zero injection for connection without power limit of RES stations with industries that absorb energy without being injected into the network
– the business subsidy program for the installation of PV and battery systems and the connection costs in order to make the investment more attractive for businesses, which will start in May and will cover 40% of the costs.

Mr. Skrekas also stated that the subsidy scheme of the green pool has been submitted, which enables in a more flexible way to create a green tank that will be able to supply industries that will enjoy cheap green electricity at constant prices. The scheme of the subsidy concerns the support of shaping & balancing cost, with a subsidy that will be in accordance with the regulations on state aid.

Another issue raised by Mr. Skrekas concerns the suspension of SGI charging for the medium voltage until March, while he also stressed that there will be an initiative to give priority to industries to install photovoltaics in areas with a saturated network by creating additional energy space.
