Greek exports to North Macedonia jump 116% in the first half of 2022

The value of Greek exports to North Macedonia doubled in the first half of 2022, according to the provisional data of the country’s State Statistics Service.

Specifically, as stated in an informational document of the Office of EIF – Skopje, the value of Greece’s exports to the Republic of North Macedonia (DEM), in the first half of 2022, amounted to 650.4 million euros, marking an impressive increase of 116% compared to the first half of 2021 (301.6 million euros).

The increase in Greek exports is mainly due to the corresponding increase in the prices of petroleum products and derived products, which are also the main products that Greece exports to the DBM. It is characteristically stated that the total value of the category “Mineral fuels, mineral oils and their distillation products, asphalt substances and mineral waxes” amounts to 503.7 million euros, that is, it represents almost 77.4% of the total value of Greek exports to the DBM. Greece is established as the third most important trade partner of the DBM (first is Germany and followed by Great Britain).

The volume of trade rose during the first half of 2022 to 786.2 million euros (from 395.8 million euros in the corresponding period last year), i.e. increased by 98.6%. In the six months under review, Greece recorded a trade surplus of 514 million euros (from 207 million euros in the first half of 2021). Regarding Greece’s imports from the DBM, during the first half of 2022 they amounted to 135.7 million euros, marking a 44% increase compared to the corresponding period of last year. The main products that our country imports from the DBM are “Iron and steel” (48.7 million euros), “tobacco and industrial tobacco substitutes” (20.8 million euros), “Clothing products and clothing accessories” ( 12.7 million euros) and “Mineral fuels, mineral oils and their distillates, asphalt substances and mineral waxes” (10.3 million euros). In the period under review, the total value of exported goods from the DBM amounted to 4.09 billion euros, marking an increase of 20.2% compared to the corresponding period last year, while the value of imported goods was 5.97 billion euros , or 28.7% increased from the corresponding period last year. The trade deficit in the period January-June 2022 amounted to 1.87 billion euros.
