Greeks remain stranded at Munich airport – “We are sleeping in the waiting room”

Inconvenience continues for thousands of passengers who remain stranded at Munich airportas the heavy snowfall in Germany in the previous days led to the cancellation of hundreds of flights.

Among the blocked travelers are also several Greeks, either expatriates returning to Greece, or tourists who were there for leisure or even for business reasons.

Bad weather grounded planes on runways, with the airport slowly starting operations from early Sunday morning and while the snow has stopped falling, but leaving behind it huge problems and temperatures that are constantly below freezing.

A Greek who was in Frankfurt for three days and has been stranded at Munich airport since Friday afternoon, spoke to ALPHA about his adventure.

“Since late Friday afternoon, we have been trapped. They didn’t book us any rooms, we sleep in the waiting room. They gave us a bag with some raisins and candies and two 15 euro vouchers for Friday and Saturday”he initially stated, while not hiding his disappointment at the way they were treated by the airline.

When asked if the airport is now operating, he said “the airport is slowly opening, we were already encouraged, because the sun came out. It has stopped snowing since Saturday afternoon”while adding that “we are disappointed with the way the company treated us.”
