Green light for five PPP projects with a total budget of 425.2 million euros

Five PPP projects with a total budget of 425.2 million euros were approved today by the Interministerial PPP Committee, chaired by the Deputy Minister of Development & Investment Mr. Nikos Papathanasis.

It’s about:

a. The construction and technical management of the Technology Dissemination Center of the Active Urban Planning Zone of Kozani as well as sports facilities in school premises as well as new school buildings. This project will cover social, economic and educational needs of citizens living and working in the wider area of ​​Kozani. It will contribute both to the cultural development of the region and to the creation of a high level of educational and sports infrastructure.

b. The construction and operation of an integrated waste treatment system in one of the most touristic destinations in Greece, Santorini. This project promotes green, cyclical and sustainable development with respect for the environment and emphasis on improving the quality of life of citizens. The local economy is strengthened and new jobs are being created.

c. The construction and operation of irrigation networks in the regional unit of Karditsa.

d. The construction and operation of the Minagiotiko dam and the irrigation network in areas of the Municipality of Pylos – Nestoros in Messinia.

The above two irrigation projects are considered to be of particular importance for supporting the needs of local communities and their economies. Specifically, the existing irrigation system in Tavropos of Karditsa, is damaged to a great extent due to the recent natural disaster. In the Municipality of Pylos – Nestoros, the irrigation needs will be covered in order to satisfy the needs for high yield crops and problematic sections of existing rural roads will be restored. Both of these projects will achieve water savings, streamlining of irrigation conditions and increase of arable land.

e. Construction of a new Amphitheater building at the University of Crete. This is a modification of an already approved PPP project as instead of the completion of the existing Grand Amphitheater, the construction of a new building was chosen that will fully cover the needs of the students. This option is within the original budget.
