With 586 votes in favor, 100 against and seven abstentions, the Federal Parliament of Germany approved on Thursday (28/4) the Proposal for a law by the parliamentary groups of the ruling coalition parties (SPD, Greens, FDP) and the Christian Union (CDU / CSU)which provides, inter alia, for the delivery of heavy goods weapons in Ukraine.
“THE Bundestag condemns in the most categorical way the violent aggressor Russia’s war against Ukraine. “In doing so, Russia is blatantly violating international and humanitarian law and trying to permanently destroy the European order of peace,” said the new law, which called on the government to “continue and, where possible, speed up the delivery of necessary equipment to Ukraine.” while extending the delivery of heavy weapons and sophisticated systems as part of an arms exchange system, without compromising Germany’s ability to defend the Alliance. “
In addition, the federal government, according to the Athens News Agency, must take care of the humanitarian support of the refugees, while it must make every effort to free the country from Russian energy.
The parties are also urging the government to set up a special fund to modernize the German armed forces as soon as possible. In this way, the CDU / CSU signal that they are also approving the necessary constitutional changes, in order to allocate 100 billion euros to the Bundeswehr, the German armed forces.
The Left voted against the proposal, warned of the danger of sending heavy weapons to escalate the threat of nuclear war, and the Alternative for Germany (AfD), which advocated maintaining good relations with Russia and called the proposal a “declaration of entry into the war.”
